2024-2025 SEASON
National Champions: Rutgers University
RU Breaks, representing the Rutgers University, took home the 2024-25 national championship at Breaks U!
Season Recap
The 2025 national championship saw the revival of the original collegiate breaking event, Breaks U! Following a several year hiatus, the premier intercollegiate event returned, this time hosted at Rutgers University in New Jersey. 32 crews from across the country competed for the title with RU Breaks from Rutgers claiming their second title (in addition to the inaugural title in 2023).
In a shift from prior seasons, the 2024-25 NCBA season consisted of a single championship event, with invitations sent out based on each college club’s representation at jams throughout their local scenes. By shifting the focus away from collegiate-specific qualifiers, the invites were measured based on their rep built against the best in their local scenes, rather than against other colleges. This year’s top representatives from each region were:
UC San Diego
(West Coast)
University of Houston
(South)
Rutgers
(East Coast)
Maintaining the spirit of education and mentorship, Breaks U also featured a 2v2 mentor-mentee battle. Pairs from across the Northeast represented in the high level bracket to showcase their lineage of styles. Crews included teachers and students from dance studios, crewmates from different generations, and mentors representing their local scene with young gen up and comers.
At the end of the day, Savage Henry and Notorious Nic, representing two different generations of United Outkast crew from Connecticut, took the inaugural mentor-mentee title!
